[PARK NEWS] We are saddened to share that long-time Helensburgh Stanwell Park SLSC member George Wardman passed away on Monday 9 March, aged 96.

George gained his Bronze Medallion in 1951 and was part of our Club for over 70 years. Known as our unbeatable gear steward, he remained a familiar face at Annual Meetings up until 2021, always ready to sign up, pay his fees, and support the Club.

A keen surf boat enthusiast, George spent his younger years in the boat crew and as a sweep. In 2004, the boaties named a new boat “The George Wardman” in his honour; a surprise for George and his wife June at the christening. Even in later years, he could often be found at Stanwell Park Beach watching crews train.

A funeral service will be held at Olsens Farewells, Sutherland on Friday 13 March at 2pm.
